Is it a farewell?

Hello my retro bloggers! I'm so happy to tell you that I've already finished my Research Project, the main reason why I am here. My first intention was to show a small part of my work and to transmit a feeling by a foreign language for me, in my case English. I talked about fashion since the Second World War until the seventies and then I did a research part, incluiding interviews about Vintage in my environment. I could say that I left the theory part in the seventies, because after then there aren't many new things. In my opinion, everything is reinvented since the times when freedom brought inspiration. One usefull example are the famous Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses which hit in the eighties, however they were invented in 1952. This kind of glasses came back to be in fashion few time ago. We could say that now are an undispensable accesory to get a retro look. Why do I say that? Because nowadays ''retro people'' is inspired by different epoques in their style. If we walk round the centre of the city is so easy to see many teens with Ray Ban sunglasses, taight pants from the seventies and any other old complements like belts or the famous All-Star Converse by Chuck Taylor. Haven't you ever seen anyone like this?

It has been just a little little part about all that I've learned. I hope you liked it. I don't know if I'll upload once more, maybe yes. I would like to personalize the blog more for me if I'd have more free time, I will be able to write in other languages (spanish, catalan, french, italian...) I don't know. Anyway, let's keep being on fashion and THANKS to everyone who has collabored with me.

The Power of Pop

Pop art is a style typical of sixties and seventies of the twentieth century. It was born and first developed in the U.S. (primarily New York) but soon moved to Western Europe. Pop is a whole culture of that time linked to the mass media, drug use, music, and life.
The pop artists seek to reach the maximum audience possible. His message is simple and clear and addresses the common good of society. No originality is sought but rather the reinterpretation of photographs, engravings and paintings above. Fundamental is colorful, brash and provocative.
Do not think really anything new but rather make POP artists reach the public the different artistic proposals. Maybe it's the first style of art that seeks to be understood by everyone and that strives to show a popular aesthetic. Outlines clear, strong and varied and colorful absence of large messages. No claims, allegations of injustice, heroism or bombastic. Consumerism and the image, kings of our time, are the owners of the POP. POP artists were more interested in selling to innovate artistically.

The Pin-up ladies!

A pin-up girl is a model whose pictures see wide appeal as pop culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display. Pin-up girls are glamour models, fashion models, and actresses. They began on the 40's but they were more typical on the 50's after the Second World War because they were considered as "sex symbols". They used to apear on magazines and calendars and also as image of many brands. And one of their most popular objects on pictures was the italian motorcycle: Vespa. These are some pin-up girls examples and the last one is me with my pin-up calendar bought in Rome last february! So soon I will be able to upload often. The next item: Vespas & MODS.

Fashion is not only fashion

Hi! My name is Úrsula, I'm from Barcelona and this is my first blog.

In my Research Project I'm going to talk about fashion since the Second World War until Nowadays. How we've changed in less than a century in the way of dreasing up. Maybe today we are not as modern as we think, maybe the clothes we think that are in fashion had been invented before. How have we changed?

Since last year, more or less, I could see that the main part of the most comercial and international fashion brands are founding their desings in retro fashion. At the begining, the idea amused me, because I always had found "cool" antigue clothes for women, especially in old films. And I love opening my grand-mother's wardrobe. She has worked on a shoe's factory in the Industrial Revolution in Barcelona arround the 50's, and then my mum learnt to be modist. By when I grew up, I could understand that fashion isn't just fashion; fashion has an history and evolution and we shouldn't wear retro clothes just for fashion today. It was then when I thought that I would know all about retro, and all about what we used to wear. So that's just what I'm going to do, I'm going to learn about fashion history and everything that had hit in each epoque, and the most important part of this researching project: What about people who now wear "retro" in our cities? What they know about the history of their style? Are they concerned? Or they just do it for fun, to be in fashion?

I don't know how often I will be able to update, but I hope you will enjoy my blog!
